Allameh Ali Akbar Dehkhoda was a prominent Iranian linguist
and the author of the most extensive dictionary of the Persian language ever
published. Dehkhoda was born in 1879 in Tehran, Iran. His parents were from Qazvin
and he lost his father when he was only 10 years old.
Dehkhoda was also active in politics, and served as a Member of Parliament (Majlis) from Kerman and Tehran. He also served as Dean of Tehran School of Political Science and later the School of Law of the University of Tehran. In 1905 he became involved in the Constitutional Revolution of Iran. He passed away in March, 1956 and is buried in Ebn-e Babooyeh cemetery in Shahr-e Ray, near Tehran.
